I thought I would take the time to do a cheeky review on an eye product that I have been absolutely loving for quite some time now and that is of course the Maybelline EyeStudio color tattoo cream gel eye shadows. These are hugely popular and they have every reason to be. These cream/gel hybrid eye shadows are just perfection. Originally you could only get the shimmery shades but they have recently launched the 'leather effect' shades too. Below you can see which shades I have and what they look like swatched.
Left to Right - Creamy Beige 98 (Leather Effect), On and on Bronze 35, Pink Gold 65, Immortal Charcoal 55 |
I like to wear these when I am in a rush and don't have a great deal of time to do an immaculate blended eye look (most days) because not only are they so low maintenance to apply but they also look stunning. If your the kind of person who shys away from eye shadows because you can't master the technique of shading and blending or you always struggle with a smokey eye, these are for you. You can't mess it up! And another thing to bear in mind is that these are easiest and most effective when applied with your fingers. What more could you ask for?
If you do want to go the extra mile you can use these as a base and I know a lot of people love to do this as it creates a whole new dimension to many of your eye shadows. If I do this, ill usually take a deeper colour to the crease and you instantly get a beautiful effect.
It goes without saying that these have also been created to be long lasting and they really are. You have just enough time to get it on your eye and get it perfect and then it instantly sets and stays in place most of the day. I would disagree strongly that they last for 24hrs but would you really want your eyeshadow to last 24hrs anyway? I know I can get over this small flaw.
These can also be applied as gel liners and work great used like this too, I personally don't use them this way as I'm quite happy sticking to my liquid liner.
If you were going to buy only one i really couldn't tell you which one is best. I would say i use the leather effect creamy beige the most as its such a versatile every day shade but i really love all of the others too. Immortal charcoal looks great layered with a foily silver shadow on top and teamed with a purple lip to get a great vampy rock chick look and pink gold looks great with dusky pink cheeks and a splash of lip gloss. On and on bronze is notoriously every bloggers favourite and I have to admit i reach for it at least once a week and i find it works great with blue eyes.
Finally, I have managed to get most of these on sale in supermarkets believe it or not so keep your eyes peeled in those bargain corners! These are normally £4.99 but i managed to get at least 2 of these for £3.99 so Its saved me a couple of quid.
